80’s Field Day-Whitefield

July 22, 2023

This neighbor-led event not only revitalized the park but also showcased the spirit of unity at the heart of the Community Builders Hub.

On July 22nd at Highland Park in Whitefield, the community came alive for the first-ever 80’s Field Day, a lively event that breathed new life into an underutilized park.

This plan emerged from conversations with locals during the early summer months who spoke about the park’s limited use. With the support of Lowes’ General Manager, who generously donated $400 worth of paint, the once-dismal gray recreation building received a bright yellow makeover, with local kids actively participating in the transformation. The pride on their faces as they admired their handiwork was truly priceless.

Spearheaded by the Hub, along with Whitefield residents Teresa Russo, Melissa Farrow, and Josh Dagnese, the event drew in over 150 people for a day filled with all things 80’s, from laughter echoing through the hilly streets in town to the Fire Department’s open truck for exploration.
