CBH December Happenings – up North!

December 9, 2023

In Canaan, VT we have been working closely with the organization, Canaan Naturally Connected, as their activities align well with our community building efforts.  We were glad to help empower and connect a new member of the group to lead the planning of a new series of holiday events called “Hope for the Season- Extravaganza”.

On Sat., Dec. 9th at 10 a.m., we will be on hand at the Hope for the Season event at Canaan Schools’ gym to offer complimentary hot cocoa and candy canes, and to share a new snowman contest that we have organized for the area.  Families will have an opportunity to build snowmen/sculptures together this winter, for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to experience a family outing at The Local Scoop in Beecher Falls (plus balloons & a first place ribbon!). Also, children ages 3-6 will be able to participate in a snowman-themed coloring contest. The coloring contest partners include Solomon’s Store- where coloring sheets will be handed out and completed ones will be displayed, and Alice Ward Mem. Library, which will be awarding a new seasonal hardcover book to the winner!

On Sun., Dec. 10, starting at 11 a.m., we will also be hosting a card-making craft table at the Great North Woods Center for the Arts in Columbia, NH.  During the Visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus event, this free activity will be offered for children and families to partake in, along with other festivities they have planned. We see great value in creating a homemade card for someone special this holiday season, to help spread kindness and brighten the lives of others.

Last but not least, we have partnered with the Wilderness Restaurant on Main Street in Colebrook this December, to sponsor “Quarter Coffee for Seniors” on Monday the 4th, 11th and 18th, from 7-9 a.m. each morning.  This is an opportunity for seniors to gather and enjoy coffee and conversation with each other.  Each cup of coffee (with unlimited refills) will cost senior citizens only one quarter.  There’s something special about just setting a time and place to chat over coffee, and we hope seniors will come enjoy the benefits of this simple program and perhaps decide to continue to meet up on their own afterwards.  Social interaction is so valuable to community health, and we love supporting our senior citizens who have asked for more opportunities to gather.

Happy Holidays to all!  Hope you can join us for some fun this holiday season!
