Nature Walk-CANCELED DUE TO COLD TEMPS

ATTENTION– THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO COLD WEATHER. STAY TUNED FOR UPDATED PLANS.

On Saturday, February 7, the Canaan Community Forest committee and the Community Builders Hub welcome the public to attend a nature walk at the Canaan Community Forest, via the Greenhill Road entrance.  Attendees will gather at the base at 10 a.m., to start off with a bird talk by Jillian Kilborn, Vermont Fish & Wildlife Dept. Nongame Bird Biologist.  She will help people to identify and learn about birds commonly found in the woods of the Northeast Kingdom.

The group will be led through the forest trails by Chris Masson, former Science and Diversified Agriculture/Natural Resources Teacher for Canaan Schools.  Chris will offer guidance on tree and wildlife track identification along the one mile walk, up and down the hill.  Snowshoes and poles are recommended, with some available to use at the event.

A complimentary warm lunch (courtesy of April’s Maple) and beverages will be available after the walk, at the house on the property.  Outdoor bench seating is limited, so bring a camp chair along if you’d like.  “Locals have expressed interest in doing snowshoe and birding walks this winter, and it’s always nice to share a meal together, so we hope this serves as a great way for community members to gather”, note co-organizers Britni Haley, Community Steward for The Community Builders Hub, and Terrie Herr of the Canaan Community Forest committee.

Contact Britni at 802-277-1974 with any questions.  The town of Canaan, VT Facebook page will also post event updates.
