Connecting the North Country & NEK- Winter Workgroup Gathering

On September 25th, Connecting the North Country took place at Mohawk Falls in Colebrook, NH, organized by The Community Builders Hub with partners Canaan Naturally Connected, LaPerle’s IGA, and Mohawk Falls. The event brought together 86 participants from 24 towns for roundtable discussions on 11 key community topics of interest, fostering networking and relationship-building in a relaxed atmosphere.

In response to participant feedback, a follow up event is taking place: Connecting the North Country & NEK- Winter Workgroup Gathering to be held January 9th, 5-7 PM at the Canaan Elementary School multipurpose room (cafeteria) in Canaan, VT.  Conversations will focus on the top four issues identified by residents of northern Coos County, NH, and northeastern Essex County, VT.  This event aims to build relationships, review insights from the September gathering, and develop action plans to strengthen our communities. The gathering is a community-led effort organized by The Community Builders Hub, Canaan Naturally Connected, and the Canaan School, which has generously offered space.

There is now an exciting addition for the gathering that you won’t want to miss!  Guest speaker Brian Laperle, of the North Country Community Recreation Center (NCCRC) board of directors, as well as the Community Builders Hub board, will be providing a brief update about the status of the Wellness Center development that the Rec. Center board has been working on with Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in recent years. They are looking for community input and for stakeholders to come together around this development.  Interestingly, the plans for this center tie into the key topics that the public will be discussing at this event, (Wellness Support Services, Gathering Places, Youth Opportunities and Communication/Event Planning).  It will be exciting to see what attendees come up with for ideas and actions to move ideas forward in the betterment of the local communities!

All community members are invited from the area to participate in this free gathering, (including teens, adults and seniors). Free childcare will be provided by the Canaan Key Club, allowing parents to fully engage.  A complimentary buffet meal of soups, breads, cookies, and water will be served, thanks to contributions from The Community Builders Hub, Canaan Naturally Connected, April’s Maple, and Solomon’s Store. It is encouraged to invite those you feel would add energy and ideas to the discussions.

The proposed agenda and discussion topics can be found here.  As capacity is limited, registration is required by January 6th at this link. Questions may be directed to Britni Haley of The Community Builders Hub at britni@thecbh.org or 802-277-1974.
