SUMMARY:North Country Historical Museum Tour
DESCRIPTION:Local History Comes Alive! Museum Tour\, “Then & Now” Presentation & History Buff Meet Ups \nLocal historical societies and groups of northern New Hampshire and Vermont have been gathering this year\, with the help of The Community Builders Hub\, to see each other’s spaces and collaborate on common goals.  As a result\, several are participating in a tour of their museums on Saturday\, Oct. 10th of Columbus Day weekend.  The public is invited to stop in from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the following locations: \n\nColebrook Area Historical Society Museum at Colebrook Town Hall\, 17 Bridge St.\, Colebrook\, NH – 2nd floor (elevator available).\nCanaan Historical Society Museum at Alice M. Ward Memorial Library\, 27 Park Street\, Canaan\, VT.\nPittsburg Historical Society Museum at 1525 Main Street\, Pittsburg\, NH.\nColumbia History Museum at Historic Columbia Town Hall\, 1919 US Rt. 3\, Columbia\, NH.\nStratford Public Library/1889 Grand Trunk Railway Depot Museum – representing Cohos Historical Society & the 1799 Meeting House of Groveton\, at 74 Main St.\, N. Stratford\, NH. (This museum will remain open until 4 p.m. as well as on Sun. and Mon. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.\, with O- scale model train operating for train enthusiasts of all ages to enjoy.)\n\nDiscover the history of the North Country\, from the Native American roots of the Abenaki tribe\, to logging\, farming\, railroads and grand hotels. The local groups that work hard to preserve the region’s shared history are always seeking more volunteers and members to join that effort in various ways.  As a bonus\, all patrons that visit three museums on Oct. 10th will be entered into a raffle for a gift basket of local goods\, donated by The Community Builders Hub.   \nA free regional history presentation entitled “Then & Now in the North Country”\, led by the Colebrook Area Historical Society\, will also take place at the Tillotson Center on October 17th\, starting at 1:30 PM.  Pictures of northern NH & VT places from years ago will be showcased\, compared to today’s views of the scenes.  Members of the local historical groups will participate in the presentation\, sharing their knowledge of their respective regions.  They will also be setting up tables in the gallery before and after the presentation\, to share information and talk about local history with attendees.  \nThose interested in the North Country’s history are invited to attend monthly History Buff Meet-Ups at the Tillotson Center starting in November.  Details will be forthcoming at the Oct. 17th presentation.  The North Country Chamber of Commerce also has created a webpage to promote our local history at chamberofthenorthcountry.com/history/\, which includes a downloadable brochure to points of interest.  Those on Facebook can also find the group: Northern NH and VT History\, to join other local history enthusiasts.  For more details on programs\, please visit tillotsoncenter.org.
