DESCRIPTION:The Busy Bees Gardening Group invites gardeners and social butterflies to a free Fall Social at the Tillotson Center\, located at 14 Carriage Lane in Colebrook\, NH on November 3rd\, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.  All are welcome to join in a potluck dinner\, by bringing a favorite dish to share (appetizers\, crockpots\, casseroles\, breads\, goodies\, fall-themed drinks\, etc.).  Look to the Busy Bees Gardening Group on Facebook for more details about the event and the group. \nThe evening will include a recap of what the group has accomplished in its first year\, and a discussion will help to make plans for activities and events in the year to come.  Starting in late May of 2025\, the group hung 20 hanging baskets on Main Street in Colebrook\, and maintained them all summer with a watering crew.  (More watering volunteers will be needed in the future.)  Three garden beds were spruced up and maintained\, one at the triangle by A Notch Above Real Estate\, another at the South Main Street “island” (including the lawn area)\, and the group also assisted with maintenance of the Memorial Lot across from the town hall.  Furthermore\, volunteers helped with weeding gardens at the Rec Center and watering flowers by their entry sign.  The fall display of scarecrows\, hay bales\, pumpkins and cornstalks at the “island” across from the former Northern Outlet\, was started by the group to create a welcoming entrance to town\, as well\, with the help of additions from community members. \nThe Busy Bees aim to combine a love of flowers and gardening with fun social opportunities\, to work on gardening projects that beautify downtown Colebrook\, while enjoying the company of others. In addition to the gardening projects previously mentioned\, the group held a garden social and plant swap\, with 50 guests in attendance at the Campbell’s residence in June. They hope to move this around to be hosted at different gardens each summer. \nIn the year to come\, Main Street renovations may impact activities\, so the group will aim to plan accordingly.  All of those involved with the gardening and beautification efforts in downtown Colebrook in 2025 are encouraged to come to the social\, and anyone else interested in participating is welcome to come to get involved.  “All of this has been done with the help of volunteers and donations”\, noted core group members. “The more people we have involved\, the more good we can do!”  The Community Builders Hub is helping to organize the event and support the group. SUMMARY:2025 Northern Region Day of Caring

Day of Caring is an annual volunteer event that mobilizes thousands of volunteers to assist hundreds of local nonprofits\, who may have limited capacity to accomplish short-term\, wishlist projects.  \nStemming from community feedback\, two projects will be undertaken for the day: \n\nNorth Country Community Recreation Center– spreading mulch under the playground equipment.  (Bring a shovel & rake if you can!)\nColebrook Academy & Elementary School upper parking lot perimeter garden bed weeding. (From 1:45-2:30 PM Colebrook high school students are invited to participate during the Mohawk Block!)\n\nLast year a large contingent of 29 volunteers worked on projects together\, including trail clean-up at the River Walk and Beaver Brook Falls\, along with polyurethaning benches and picnic tables at the Falls\, and also working on sprucing up garden beds in downtown Colebrook.  The result was a hugely positive\, visible impact on the community. \nOrganizers are seeking support from local volunteers to help out with the projects again this year. Why volunteer?  It makes a tangible difference in your community\, fosters a sense of teamwork and contributes to building a stronger\, more supportive place to live.  There will be a morning volunteer shift from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and an afternoon shift from 12-3 p.m.   \nThe day will kick off at 9 a.m. at the Colebrook Town Hall (located at 17 Bridge St.)\, where volunteers will meet up and then branch out to work on projects.  A complimentary pizza lunch will be available for participants at the Colebrook Town Hall at noon\, as well.   \nTo sign up to volunteer\, please fill out this form. Event contacts are Laura Boucher (Laura.boucher@graniteuw.org) and Britni Haley (britni@thecbh.org). It is recommended to wear gloves and work clothes on the Day of Caring.  Event details and updates can be found on Facebook.

SUMMARY:Community WEEK!
DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, we helped to pull together a Stratford Park Clean-Up Day on the afternoon of June 29th.  A dozen hardy volunteers tackled community improvement projects in the rain that day\, and gathered at DeBanville’s afterwards for a slice of pizza\, drinks and live music to celebrate.  We accomplished the following together at the Back Street River Park in the north of town: \n\nBrush clean-up alongside the river\nBuilt two new benches to replace old ones by the basketball court\nCleaned out & repainted the ballfield dugouts\nStained the River Launch sign\n\nThis year we are planning round two and calling it a Community Day! (Now called Community Week and extended to work around weather.) Here’s what’s in store for projects: \n\n\nStratford Public School Community Clean-Up projects- rescheduled to Tuesday May 27\, 1-3 PM (due to poor weather) \n\nReviving school garden beds\, led by school staff\, with younger grades.\nLitter pickup for older students.\nRepainting school dugouts.\n\nProjects to take place all week\, starting Saturday\, May 24th\, 2025 at 9 AM (please sign up to be connected with a project leader by emailing britni@thecbh.org)  Thank you leaders! \n\nPainting benches led by Molly Carr\nPavilion clean up led by Sarah Kennett\nStaining benches & picnic tables led by Suzanne Goulet\nFlower planter cleanup led by Jamie Davis\nBrush clean-up along the edge of the park (contact town office)\n\nWe are going to kick off this Community Week on 5/24 at 5 PM\, by enjoying live music at DeBanville’s in Bloomfield\, VT!  At the end of the week\, all volunteers that helped out are invited to a pizza party at 5 PM on 5/30\, sponsored by DeBanville’s.  We thank them for their partnership & support on this effort\, as well as the Stratford Public School and Stratford Town Office.   \n\n\nTogether we can do so much to beautify Stratford!  We love to have fun and get stuff done!  If you are interested in volunteering for a project\, please contact Britni Haley at britni@thecbh.org or 802-277-1974.  Feel free to send a text.  See Facebook Event for updates.

SUMMARY:Family Village series
DESCRIPTION:A series of four “Family Village” sessions will be taking place on the Tuesday afternoons of April 15\, April 22\, May 6 and May 13\, from 4:00-5:00 PM\, downstairs at the Colebrook Public Library (use rear entrance).  Colebrook area parents and caregivers who want to be part of a supportive network and are interested in working together to make positive change for children in their community are invited to join in these supportive group meetings.   \n“At the New Hampshire Statewide Family Engagement Center\, our mission is to bring together families\, schools\, and communities to enhance our children’s education and the community as a whole. One of the ways we try to accomplish this goal is with the Family Villages curriculum.” notes lead organizer\, Wendy Conway.  She explains\, “Family Villages is a framework to build mutual support networks for families\, adapted from Dana Suskind’s Parent Nation program. This group brings caregivers together to develop their personal strengths and goals\, to enhance our communities as good places to raise our children.  During these sessions\, parents will also develop some sort of goal and begin working towards it together. For example\, we had a facilitator who completed a dad’s family village and the goal they established and are still working on is to create a father’s group held by local fathers\, and this group is beginning to thrive! The possibilities are endless.” \nThe event is being hosted by the NH Statewide Family Engagement Center\, and supported by The Community Builders Hub who will be providing light refreshments.  To register\, please contact Wendy Conway at conway@compactnh.org.  Participants will receive a $20 electronic gift card for each session they attend.  More information on the NH Statewide Family Engagement Center can be found at nhsfec.org/.   \n
