SUMMARY:Firefighter Appreciation Day
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite all firefighters and families that serve northern Coos County\, NH and northeastern Essex County\, VT to the first ever Firefighter Appreciation Day in Canaan\, VT\, on July 19\, 2025 at the Canaan Recreation Park\, located at 6745 VT Route 102.  We especially want to honor our local fire departments of Beecher Falls\, Colebrook\, Errol\, Pittsburg and Stratford\, as well as our emergency medical service providers: 45th Parallel EMS and Errol Rescue Squad.\n \nThis free public event\, open to all\, has been organized in order to recognize and celebrate all of our hard-working and courageous volunteer firefighters and EMS providers that serve our communities.  It will be a fun summer afternoon\, taking place\, rain or shine\, from 3-8 p.m.  Highlights include: \n\nLive music on the Catamount Arts stage by Hidden Agenda Reprise Band (featuring local favorite- Tom Frizzell). Playing Classic Rock & Country from the 70s to today.\nFood vendors– Hobo’s Cafe (BBQ food)\, April’s Maple\, Jean Ralph Catering\, Sweeter than Sugar\, Pittsburg Class of 2027 cold/frozen drinks & treats.\nRecreation games– pickleball\, disc golf\, wiffleball\, kickball and all the usual fun at the rec park like the new splash pad & playground!\nResource vendor fair– get to know your community!  \nFundraisers: 50/50 raffle\, merchandise sales\, cornhole…\n\n\n\n\n\nOur local firefighters consistently demonstrate exceptional courage\, commitment\, and selflessness in protecting our communities\, responding to emergencies with unwavering professionalism\, and going above and beyond to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors. We aim to express our profound gratitude for their tireless efforts\, as a reminder that their contributions are deeply valued and appreciated by the entire region.  Town Managers\, Governors of Vermont and New Hampshire and other dignitaries will be invited to this special event.   \nFood & community resource vendors wishing to sign up for a space\, please fill out the registration form by July 5th\, where further details can be found. \nYou may be interested in stopping by the library’s book sale next to the park\, as well! \n\n\nOnline Store – We have fantastic news! Our online store (firefighter-ems-store.printify.me) is all set and ready to go.  Now everyone can show their support for our local heroes by purchasing some cool custom gear.  You can also grab a yard sign to cheer on our heroes! Imagine your whole neighborhood decked out in these signs of support. The best part is that the profit from each item will benefit the department of your choice.  The store will remain open until the end of December\, so these items could make some lovely Christmas gifts.  We’re starting things off with some classic goodies\, but we’re always open to new ideas.  If you have any suggestions\, feel free to reach out to Angela Flanagan at freedom05903@gmail.com.  Let’s all come together and show our support for our local heroes!  (Calendar Contest- discontinued due to lack of interest.) \nYou can also support your local heroes by donating to the department of your choice at Paypal or Venmo @CanaanNaturallyConnected (last four of phone 2598).  Please add a memo for what department your donation is for and it will get directed accordingly. SUMMARY:Splash Pad Ribbon Cutting & Ice Cream Social
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, August 7th\, we are participating in an event from 6-7 p.m. at the Canaan Recreational Park in Canaan\, VT.   The Canaan Recreation Park Committee is celebrating the opening of a new park feature: a splash pad!  This is truly an asset to the town and the region\, and something to be celebrated!  Anyone from the area is welcome to come enjoy an ice cream social this evening\, along with a ribbon cutting ceremony\, recognizing those that made it possible. \nIce cream will be provided\, compliments of April’s Maple\, and we will be on hand to help serve it and celebrate with community members.  We are so glad to partner on efforts like this in our region!  More details can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/events/1046373157074692 and https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090342171992.  A rain date of August 8th will be used in case of inclement weather\, and will be updated at the links provided.

SUMMARY:Summer Picnic & Play Series! #3
DESCRIPTION:We are teaming up with the Family Resource Center to host a series of three “Picnic & Play” meet-ups on Fridays at parks in the North Country this summer.  After listening to what families we were looking for\, we came up with fun offerings at three different locations that will help bring people together and take advantage of our town’s assets.  We will be offering free peanut butter & jelly sandwiches\, applesauce\, and cold bottled water for families to enjoy a picnic together\, paired with fun things to do. \nOur final get-together will be on August 7th (rescheduled from 8/9 due to rain) at the Canaan\, VT Community Recreation Park on Route 102 near the Alice M. Ward Memorial Library.  We’ll start off with lunch\, which families can enjoy on a picnic blanket or chairs\, and then everyone is welcome to enjoy the amenities of the park which include a great playground and a paved track for riding bikes or walking.  We’ll pass out some pinwheels for the kids to have fun with\, and caregivers will have ample time for visiting while the kids play. \nWe hope that these opportunities to gather will increase social connections in our communities\, open up eyes to the wonderful places we have in our towns\, and provide fun ways for families to enjoy time together this summer.
