Latin Beats and Eats: A Celebration of Culture, Community, and Connection

November 8, 2024

This year’s Latin Beats and Eats event was something truly special.

We gathered at The Loading Dock in Littleton, where people from 10 different Latin countries came together to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the sounds of merengue and bachata, delicious food, and a whole lot of joy. It was a moment that brought the community together in ways that really matter. I could feel the energy and love in the room, and it’s something we haven’t seen in this area before. Everyone was already asking, “When’s the next one?” before the night even ended.

The event was sparked by the incredible Martina Macakova, a Spanish teacher at WMRHS, who has been bringing Hispanic Heritage Month to life here for years. Partnering with her made it all the more meaningful, as we worked together to create something that connected people across generations and cultures. I loved seeing kids watch their parents dance, learn about their heritage, and celebrate with their community. There’s nothing better than seeing that kind of connection between families, those little moments where people are proud of who they are, and others are right there celebrating with them.

We couldn’t have done it without the help of local businesses, too. The Loading Dock gave us the perfect space, and The Little Grille, owned by some amazing local Latinas, kept us all well-fed with authentic flavors that brought the night to life. There’s something about sharing a meal and dancing together that breaks down barriers. It felt like we weren’t just celebrating different cultures, we were celebrating each other. It was beautiful to watch people laugh, dance, and bond over the shared experience.

At the Community Builders Hub, this is exactly the kind of magic we’re all about. It’s not just about putting on events, it’s about creating moments that bring people together, build relationships, and make everyone feel welcome. I’ve always believed in the power of connection and community, and this event was a perfect example of that. If you were there, you know the love in the room was real. If you missed it, don’t worry, there’s more to come. I can’t wait to keep bringing people together, one beat and one meal at a time.
